Carson City's Pioneer Academy students join National Honor Society
Pioneer Academy in Carson City recently inducted 25 students into the National Honor Society. “We have so many outstanding students here, they need to be acknowledged for their hard work,” advisor Steffany Walker replied when asked why she looked into starting a new chapter.
The National Honor Society promotes scholarship, leadership, service, and character in its members. Members are required to maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, participate in service projects for both their school and community, and nurture their leadership skills.
Pioneer Academy students were chosen from both the in-seat students and online students. The new members were nominated by a committee of teachers and staff based on the national criteria. In addition to maintaining their academic excellence, the NHS members will be organizing and maintaining the new school library and planning a school-wide food drive, with our junior members supporting the efforts.
When Mrs. Walker approached the idea with administration, Mr. Zona stated, "...absolutely, this is exactly what we have been working on at Pioneer Academy. Our team has continually raised the bar adding dual high school and college credit courses on campus, students have risen to the expectations, and Mrs. Walker has brought this important academic organization to fruition on our campus. I am extremely proud of our students and the entire Pioneer team!"
