Inspections include: the Carson City Jail, a bakery, a hotel food marketplace, bars and lounges, a speciality beverage shop, restaurants and a mobile food vehicle.

A 30-year-old Carson City man, arrested on suspicion of DUI early Friday morning, also faces a felony charge of being in possession of a controlled substance and a gross misdemeanor charge of being in possession of a dangerous drug.

Carson City sheriff's patrol officers stopped Lauffette Kimmins Jr. for speeding, doing 44 mph in a 25 mph zone. The man showed signs of intoxication and admitted to taking Vicodin pills but denied drinking any alcoholic beverages. When officers spoke with the man, they could smell alcohol on his breath, the arrest report states.

Two California women jailed earlier this week in a credit card fraud scheme, face additional felony charges including burglary and being in possession of forgery devices.

Markeisha Yvette Orviss, 22, and Kamesha Joann Cooper, 24, of Pittsburg, Calif., remain in jail and face the additional charges.

The May unemployment rate in Carson City fell from 10.1 percent to 9.5 percent, marking the lowest number of unemployed in the capital city since 2008.

Statewide, unemployment rate fell from 9.6 percent to 9.5 percent, seasonally adjusted, with 131,400 people looking for work, marking the 29th straight month of private-sector job creation on a year-over-year basis and the lowest number of unemployed since the worst of the recession hit the Silver State beginning in 2008.

A backlog in disability claims for veterans has been reduced in Northern Nevada over the past two years, with more plans in the works to address the complex issue, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced recently.

In Northern Nevada, 785 veterans were provided decisions on their claims during the 2-year iniative. As of June 19, 2013, 49 of these two-year claims remain pending.
