UPDATE 10:30AM MONDAY: The Sierra Front Type 3 team battling the Pedlar Fire in Silver City took control of the fire at 11 p.m. Sunday night. As of 7:30 Monday morning the fire was 75 percent contained, according to the latest from Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch. Highway 341 from Highway 50 to the truck route "Y"was reopened. Highway 342 from the "Y' through Silver City to Virginia City will remain closed this morning.

Silver medallions that will be given to players at the 2013 Triple-A All-Star game at Aces Stadium next month were minted in Carson City Friday. The silver medallions were imprinted on the historic number one press at the Carson Mint.

A vintage two-story brick building sits on the southwest corner of Curry and King streets in Carson City. Local lore and a Kit Carson/Blue Line Trail sign near the entrance have it that the structure at 102 S. Curry St. dates back to 1859-60, shortly after the town was founded in Eagle Valley, Utah Territory.

A car wash to benefit Nevada Department of Corrections officer Mike Gribble will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, at the AM/PM located on the corner of William and North Carson streets in Carson City.

Gribble had been on life support after undergoing intestinal surgery. He remains hospitalized but friends and family say he is improving. The car wash costs $5 and is being hosted by friends and co-workers of Mike and Christie Gribble.

A one week stay in a luxury home on the island of Kauai will be a featured lot item during the live auction at this summer’s Concert Under the Stars in Carson City.

The event takes place July 9, outdoors behind Café at Adele’s. Legendary Rock Band “War” will headline the Concert, local favorites Notch 8 and CW and Mr. Spoons will open the show. The gates open at 5 p.m. and the music begins at 6:30 p.m.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop each afternoon and evening around Carson City through midweek as an area of high pressure heats up the Sierra and western Nevada, according to the National Weather Service.

Best chances for thunderstorms though Wednesday will be in the shaded area on the map above. Main impacts from these thunderstorms will be heavy rain, hail, lightning, and strong outflow winds over 40 mph.

Here is the Carson City road construction and maintenance report for the week of July 1-7: Beginning Monday, Lompa Lane will be closed between Highway 50 East and Menlo Drive due to construction.

Detours will be signed. In addition, the JAC bus routes 2A and 2B will be re-routed to follow the detour route and the bus stops on Lompa Lane and Menlo Drive will be temporarily closed during the road closure.

There will be road work on Long Street between Humboldt Lane and Rand Avenue. No delays are expected.

RENO, Nev. - University of Nevada Director of Athletics Doug Knuth announced today that Jay Johnson has been named the head baseball coach at Nevada. Johnson spent the last eight seasons as associate head coach at the University of San Diego. He will begin his duties at Nevada on July 1.

“Through the interview process I was impressed with Jay’s commitment to academics and building relationships within the community,” Knuth said. “I felt he is the coach that will have the Wolf Pack competing at the highest level possible.”
