Tune in for another edition of Capital Crossfire Sunday at 7:30 p.m. on Access Carson City Television channels 210 and 226. Hosts Shelly Aldean and Karl Neathammer welcome guests Joe McCarthy of the Comstock Residents Association and John Hadder of Great Basin Resource Watch. The discussion and debate is mining on the Comstock.

The program can be seen on Carson Now beginning Monday and will air again on Access Carson City Televsion Fridays, 8 p.m. on July 12 and July 19, and Saturdays, July 13 and 20, 2 p.m., and Sunday, July 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Here is the Carson City road construction and maintenance report for Monday, July 8 through July 14.

Beginning Monday, July 8, there will be nightly lane closures on South Carson Street between Koontz Lane and US Highway 50 W (Spooner Junction) between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Once the work on Carson Street is complete, Frontage Road will be permanently closed from Arthur Street to just south of Snyder Avenue. However, access will be maintained for businesses and residences. This will likely occur mid to late-week.

Officials say they're watching an outbreak of the white Satin Moth. They say the insect damages and kills entire trees, by consuming the leaves.

Despite gusty winds and low humidity, firefighters made significant progress Saturday on the Bison Fire burning in the Pine Nut Mountain Range in Douglas County, reaching 30 percent containment with full containment expected Monday.

Changes in wind direction have made for extreme fire behavior Saturday morning for firefighters battling the Bison Fire. About 20 homes are threatened again. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office and East Fork Fire have implemented evacuation operations and structure protection.

The Lyon County Office of Emergency Management has been notified by the unified command of the Bison Fire burning in the Pine Nut Mountain Range in Douglas County about the behavior of the wildfire, the direction it is heading and smoke and flames visible to residents in Smith Valley and Wellington.

UPDATE 5PM: Bison Fire grows to 2,000 acres, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. At least 350 firefighters are battling the blaze burning in southeast Douglas County.
