This evening, looking out my back door, I could see that the moon was very bright and cast nice crisp shadows. Today is the full moon for October and the next one will be Nov. 9. As I spied the moon I saw that Jupiter was just above and to the right and was also very clear. Several of Jupiter's moons were also visible.

CAMPO and RTC meetings to discuss grants, agreements, projects and plans at Carson City Community Center

The Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s (CAMPO) next meeting is expected to take place on Wednesday, Oct. 12 beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room in the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

The Carson City Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) will have their meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 12 following the CAMPO meeting in the same location.

'Keep Tahoe Blue' warns about algae advisory signs at Lake Tahoe beaches

LAKE TAHOE, CA — Lake Tahoe is famous for its blueness. The growth and spread of algae is one reason blue lakes around the world can go green in the summer.

Algae forms the base of many food webs, and most algae in Lake Tahoe, though sometimes unattractive, does not pose a health risk to people or animals that enjoy the Lake.

Harmful algal blooms (HABs) are a different story.

The scholarship incorporates service learning and mentorship with academics, with the goal of increasing enrollment in higher education and improving overall student achievement, by eliminating financial barriers and allowing students to place greater emphasis on their education.
