Registration open for annual Carson City ‘Back 2 School’ basketball camp in early August, spots limited

Capital City Hoops is hosting the third annual ‘Back 2 School’ basketball camp next week on Monday, Aug. 2 through Thursday, Aug. 5 from 9 a.m. to noon at the MAC Facility.

Organized by Carson High School varsity basketball coach Jordan Glover, the camp welcomes boys and girls, ages 5-14 to participate.

Only 60 spots are available, however players won’t be turned away. The camp cost is 90 dollars for CC Hoops’ members and 110 dollars for non-members.

Tamarack Fire update Monday: 45 percent containment, US-395 reopens, residents returning

UPDATE: Evacuations for the Spring Valley and Holbrook areas are lifted at 1:00 p.m. today. Residents are allowed to return to their homes.

The U.S. Forest Service reports significant progress was made over the weekend fighting the 67,764-acre Tamarack Fire south of Gardnerville, reaching 45 percent containment, with evacuations being lifted for many residents and the opening of two highways.

Northern Nevada landscapes, gardens: Pruning bridal wreath spirea

My friend Kate asked me to come by and look at her bridal wreath spireas today. These plants are lush, green and over five feet tall; Kate was wondering how to prune them. She wants them to bloom more. The plants are under the eaves of the house, some facing south, and others facing west, all in filtered light from pines.
