Verne R. Horton of Carson City, Nevada passed away at his residence on October 19, 2020. He was born February 1, 1941 in Los Angeles, CA and is survived by loving and devoted wife of 23 years, Brenda; sons Sean and Scott, daughter Debra, 5 grandchildren and brother, Jim Horton.

Carson City Mayor Robert 'Bob' Crowell dies

Carson City Mayor, attorney and Vietnam veteran Robert L. "Bob" Crowell died overnight. He was 74.

Robert L. "Bob" Crowell was a native Nevadan, born in the mining town of Tonopah and raised in Carson City. An attorney by profession, Bob was a Vietnam Veteran and retired Navy Captain. He was elected Mayor of Carson City in 2008 and assumed his duties as Mayor on January 5, 2009. He was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. Prior to being elected Mayor, Bob served 11 years on the Carson City School Board of Trustees.

Vietnam Veterans honored at Carson City ceremony in Mills Park

Dozens of military veterans, families and community members saluted the fallen during the Vietnam Veterans Day of Remembrance ceremony at Mills Park Saturday.

The ceremony was presented by the Carson Area Chapter 388 of the Vietnam Veterans of America.

"Today we share a few moments with our fellow veterans, family and friends to reflect on what that war meant and what it means to us today,” said Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell.

Motorcycles are on the way. The Street Vibrations Spring Rally is rumbling into town and Battle Born Harley on Research Way is the place to be. Every Thursday, house band the Smoken Rabbits, gets the place jumping, but this party won’t end until Sunday. The weather is finally cooperating, so karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar will be out on their patio – J and M Productions has thousands of songs to choose from. Jimmy Mallett at Living the Good Live will croon you into yesteryear with Rat Pack nostalgia.

The Littlest Things in Carson City is more than a petting zoo, it’s a refuge. You’ll find ponies, goats, puppies, ducks, and more at this great non-profit rescue and they are always looking for animal-loving volunteers. Carson City veteran named Nevada Veteran of the Month

A retired United States Marine gunnery sergeant has been named Nevada Veteran of the Month by the Nevada Office of Veterans Services (NOVS).

Frank Reynolds of Carson City was selected by nomination for his work serving fellow veterans both in the community and statewide.

Carson City Vet Council discusses changes at meeting

Members of the Carson City Veterans Community Council (CCVCC) met Wednesday afternoon to discuss changes within existing member organizations, as well as to welcome new members onto the council.

Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell and City Manager Nick Marano, both veterans, attended Wednesday's meeting and highlighted changes to the city's new, improved web site scheduled to go public by the end of May.

Column: Vietnam Veterans are loved

I was honored to attend and cover Saturday's Vietnam War Remembrance and Welcome Home ceremony near the Nevada Vietnam War Memorial at Mills Park.

While there, a television image suddenly came to mind of a Vietnam War veteran sitting alone at the counter of a cafe while a young boy and his mother paid attention to a uniformed service man who had just come in.

The scene was from a television spot paid for by moments.org, a production of the INSP network, entitled "Thank You For Your Service (A Moment of Truth)."

Vietnam veterans honored at ceremony in Carson City

Nevada Vietnam War veterans were honored Saturday in Carson City as dozens gathered in Mills Park to observe the Vietnam Veterans Day of Remembrance and hold a welcome home ceremony at the Nevada Vietnam War Memorial.

Frank Reynolds, current president of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) local chapter 388 in Carson City, opened the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance and the chapter’s chaplain delivered the invocation.

Carson City veterans group attracting more stakeholders

Participation in Carson City's local Green Zone Initiative push has more than doubled since the first meeting called together by Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong on Feb. 10.

More than two dozen people attended Wednesday's meeting of the Carson City Veterans Community Council (CCVCC), the local branch of the state of Nevada's Green Zone Initiative, a program introduced by the Governor's Interagency Council on Veterans Affairs.

The Carson Area Chapter 388 of the Vietnam Veterans of America cordially invites all Vietnam Veterans and the general public to the 2016 “Welcome Home” Vietnam Veterans Ceremony to be held at the Nevada Vietnam War Memorial at Mills Park.

The half hour Ceremony is intended to honor those who served during the Vietnam War and came home while remembering those Brothers and Sisters who served, but never made it home.

The Ceremony will be followed by a “No-Host” Reception from 5:30-8:30 at the Gold Dust Hotel and Casino located at 2171 E William St, Carson City, NV 89701.

On this day, November 11, 2015, we pay tribute to all those who wear and have worn the uniform in the service of their country. On this day we also pay tribute to the families and friends of our veterans who provide both needed and grateful support to our service members.
