Taking advantage of statewide moisture in the forecast, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will conduct prescribed fire operations across several portions of the forest this week as part of the forest’s hazardous fuels reduction effort and active forest management program. Also, weather and conditions permitting, the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team will continue widespread prescribed fire operations this week in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Wildland fire officials have lifted fire restrictions across much of Nevada’s public lands. The Bureau of Land Management, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and Nevada Division of Forestry have rescinded the current 2020 Nevada-wide fire restrictions as of Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020.

To get a good look at the viewing, venture up through Highway 88 from Woodfords to Caples Lake. Another good area of fall color viewing is from Woodfords on Highway 89 up to Kinney reservoir on Highway 4 .

Firefighters continued fire suppression operations Sunday on the Poeville Fire burning on the east side of Peavine Mountain northwest of Reno.

UPDATE 11:14AM: The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from noon to 8 p.m. Friday for the following areas: Southern Mono County, Southern Sierra Front including Alpine, Northern Mono, Southern Lyon, and Western Mineral Counties, West Humboldt Basin in Pershing County and Lahontan Basin including Churchill and Eastern Mineral counties. The Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Mono County, Mineral and Southern Lyon counties, Hawthorne, Yerington, Smith Valley, Mina, Schurz, Fernley, Fallon, Lovelock, Silver Springs, Nixon, and Imlay. Carson City, and Carson Valley are not in the Wind Advisory area.

Strong winds expected Friday has prompted the National Weather Service to issue high wind and fire weather watches for portions of Northern Nevada.

Reader Jose Ramirez writes the following: "Upper end of Goni Road in Carson City had some fairly stiff breezes Saturday afternoon. A solid Russian Olive Tree was no match for the winds. Wind meter had a gust of 37 mph just about the time the tree went over. That was our main shade for the back yard. Sad."

Near record high temperatures will continue through Friday with afternoon thunderstorms possible, especially around the Reno and Lake Tahoe areas, according to the National Weather Service.

A late-season spring storm will bring gusty winds, below average temperatures, mountain snow, and periods of valley rain Sunday through Tuesday around the Carson City region, according to the National Weather Service.

The spring warm up will take a brief hiatus this week around the Carson City region as a weather system will move through the area, bringing gusty winds, with showers and high elevation snow late Monday into Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Looking at the weather over the next few days, it may be been hit or miss with snow showers possible into Monday that could bring minor accumulations in the higher elevations with a stray shower possibly into western Nevada, according to the National Weather Service.
