Prescribed fires this week ahead of storms on Humboldt-Toiyabe, Lake Tahoe basin forests

Taking advantage of statewide moisture in the forecast, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will conduct prescribed fire operations across several portions of the forest this week as part of the forest’s hazardous fuels reduction effort and active forest management program. Also, weather and conditions permitting, the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team will continue widespread prescribed fire operations this week in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

The Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team will resume prescribed fire operations this week in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Operations will continue over the next several weeks, conditions and weather permitting. Smoke may be visible.

Carson City area weather: Sierra snow into Saturday, followed by colder storm Monday

The weather will transition to a more active pattern with periods of mountain snow, valley rain, and gusty winds later Friday through Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service. A second colder system will be on its heels for early Monday and will provide chances for another round of snow.

Hello fellow anglers, Fall is definitely here. Renee and I took a trip through Alpine County last week to enjoy the fall colors. Many trees have turned, while others are just starting to get their true colors.

To get a good look at the viewing, venture up through Highway 88 from Woodfords to Caples Lake. Another good area of fall color viewing is from Woodfords on Highway 89 up to Kinney reservoir on Highway 4 .

Reader Jose Ramirez writes the following: "Upper end of Goni Road in Carson City had some fairly stiff breezes Saturday afternoon. A solid Russian Olive Tree was no match for the winds. Wind meter had a gust of 37 mph just about the time the tree went over. That was our main shade for the back yard. Sad."
