Carson City offices to close at 3 p.m. today
Because of the significant and predicted snowfall, and the potential for hazardous traveling conditions, non-essential Carson City employees will be sent home early and city offices will close at 3 p.m. Thursday, said Carson City Manager Nick Marano.
Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval earlier ordered all state government offices, other than essential public safety and corrections personnel, to close at noon Thursday due to the winter storm in Carson City.
“Earlier today I spoke with Mayor Bob Crowell who agreed that we should get our employees on the road before dark tonight so they can get home safely and enjoy the Holiday with their families” said City Manager Nick Marano. “To that end, we will be closing administrative City Offices at 3pm today.
"Public Safety related activities such as the Sheriff’s Office and the Fire Department are excluded as is the Emergency Shelter at Fuji Park. I want to thank the Streets Division for their hard work and dedication; they are fully mobilized and working hard to minimize the effects of the storm. They will continue to do so throughout the storm and in its aftermath. I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this closure may have on residents.”
Meanwhile, due to the cold temperatures associated with the storm, the Emergency Warming Shelter at Fuji Park will be open tonight, Dec. 24, in addition to the other three days it is scheduled to be open, Christmas night through Dec. 27, said Beth McCready-White, client services manager for Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH.
Those in need of a ride to the shelter can meet at FISH, 138 E. Long Street, at 7:45 pm, and the FISH shuttle will be here to transport them to Fuji Park soon thereafter. People will be then transported back to FISH at 7 a.m.
FISH offices will be closed today through Dec. 27.
