Snow expected Christmas weekend for Carson City
A white day-after Christmas may be in store as another cold-air storm system is expected to move into the Carson City region, according to the National Weather Service in Reno and Carsonweather.com.
Low pressure from the Gulf of Alaska will move into the Western Nevada region by this weekend bringing periods of snow and gusty winds, especially on Christmas night into Sunday, according to the weather service.
Snow levels could fall to all valley floors by Sunday morning. What is uncertain are snow amounts expected for the Carson City, Lake Tahoe and Western Nevada regions. Chances are good, however, that adverse winter weather conditions will develop and snow will fall, which could make for difficult travel conditions.
This includes all passes through the Sierra as well as Highway 395 through the Eastern Sierra. Those planning travel this Christmas weekend should prepare for winter driving conditions and possible travel delays beginning Saturday evening and continuing into Sunday.
The weather services advises to monitor forecasts closely and plan travel safely around this storm if possible. There should be a break in the weather by Monday.
