You know when it's a true Nevada wind storm when a trampoline flies
High winds around Carson City this Monday afternoon have caused trees to uproot, limbs to snap, fences to topple and a trampoline that blew into this backyard power pole in the 900 block of Chernus Drive.
Carson City Fire Department responded and NV Energy was on its way. The line has caused a handful of power failures along the street. No one was injured. It serves as a reminder that even trampolines should be secured ahead of wind storms.
Winds will continue to increase, becoming the strongest by Monday afternoon and evening. Winds are from the southwest 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 55 mph. In wind prone areas, gusts could be as high as 60 mph to 70 mph. The highest winds are being reported in Washoe Valley and the North valleys near Highway 395.
The weather service advises homeowners to secure outdoor furniture and holiday decorations.
For motorists traveling through the Sierra, there is a Winter Storm Warning in effect now until 10 a.m. Tuesday. Snow accumulations could be from 1 to 3 feet above 7,000 feet. Totals will vary below 7,000 feet due to snow level fluctuations. The highest amounts will be west of Highway 89. Snow levels are expected to be from 5,500 to 6,500 feet.
