Carson City Civil Air Patrol honors fallen officers Saturday as part of Wreaths Across America
Members of the Carson City Civil Air Patrol participated Saturday in Wreaths Across America by placing a wreath at the new permanent memorial that was established Aug. 15, 2016 at the base of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office administration building flag pole.
The permanent wreath was established to memorialize Carson City Sheriff's Office Deputy Carl Howell who died in the line of duty, Aug. 15, 2015 and to honor all Carson City officers who have fallen in the line of duty since the city's inception more than 150 years ago.
The Civil Air Patrol members also placed a wreath Saturday at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley. In the photos are: Senior Member Samualla Pry and Cadets Jacob Pry-Ware, Christina Pry-Ware and Samual Pry.
According to the Wreaths Across America website, the memorial began in 2007 as an extension of The Arlington Wreath Project, with now more than 1,100 participating locations in all 50 states and 24 national veteran cemeteries on foreign soil.
What began in 1992 with a trailer load of wreaths, decorated by volunteers and laid at the graves of fallen soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery has now become a national organization focused on the mission to "Remember, Honor and Teach."
