Cold weather with possibility of snow headed for Carson City
It looks like rain, some snow and cold weather is headed for Carson City and much of the valley floor, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Forecasters aren't quite sure yet which direction the storm system will take, with one scenario bringing heavy snow to the valley floor and the other scenario, very little snow. However, what the weather service is sure about is that temperatures will drop considerably by the middle of the week and into the weekend.
A low pressure system will bring colder temperatures and increased chances for snow across the Sierra, Lake Tahoe and western Nevada Wednesday into Thursday morning. While snow looks likely for the Sierra, differences in the model track will have an impact mainly across western Nevada.
A western track of the low will result in limited chances for precipitation in western Nevada valleys with several inches of snow possible in the Lake Tahoe Basin and higher amounts along the crest. The eastern solution would result in snow levels dropping to valley floors with periods of moderate to heavy snow in snow bands across western Nevada valley mainly south of highway 50.
Both scenarios would result in a colder temperatures as a cold front sweeps through the region. Confidence is high with regard to the trough but only moderate on track. The colder and unsettled pattern looks to continue through this weekend as series of disturbances drop south from the Pacific Northwest.
