UPDATE 3:08PM: The following is a statement from Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes regarding the passing of Timothy Jones.
“Our hearts ache for all the families and individuals involved in the car accident in Kings Canyon. We learned yesterday from law enforcement that one of our students passed away. Throughout the day today, the administration at Carson High School has provided and will continue to provide, as needed this week, grief counseling and support for students and staff. As more is learned about a memorial service, we will pass that information along.”

Family members confirmed via social media Sunday that 16-year-old Carson High School student Timothy Jones, one of seven students involved in a Nov. 9 crash on Kings Canyon, has died.
Timothy had been in a medically induced coma since the accident, in which two other high school students were critically injured. Timothy was an honor student and played baseball for Carson High School.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said he was briefed Sunday by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
“This is a tragedy. Anytime we lose one of our children, it is devastating to the community,” said Sheriff Furlong, a Carson High School graduate. “We know it is difficult for the kids to sit in school next to an empty desk where their friend used to sit. These are our friends. These are our kids. It is very very sad when something like this happens.”
Condolences have poured into the #CarsonStrong Twitter feed.
A Facebook message from the Carson Baseball Boosters Club says: "We know you will visit and look over your teammates. As our boys approach the field this season, they’ll do it your name. We know that you and God will guide them and be their shield. We love you TJ3."
Services for Timothy have not yet been announced. We will update once we learn the day and time.
A GoFundMe page established for the families of the students has raised more than $53,400.
Two other occupants remain in the hospital with serious injuries, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol on Monday. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
