It's Official: 45,553 sing 'Home Means Nevada' setting a world record
The Nevada 150 Commission received official verification Friday that Nevada has set the record for the “Most People Singing A State Song at Once” with 45,553 Nevadans participating.
As one of the celebrations’ culminating events, #NevadaSings provided Nevadans an opportunity to join together throughout the state to demonstrate our state pride by singing a rendition of “Home Means Nevada.” And we did! Nevadans entered their video or photo proof singing with co-workers, friends, family, schools and businesses at more than 500 locations.
A video montage can be seen here.
RecordSetter, a Las Vegas-based company, established and verified the record. #NevadaSings was made possible through a sponsorship from Sempra U.S. Gas & Power.
Nevada’s Sesquicentennial (#NV150), the 150th anniversary of Nevada’s admission to the Union, provided opportunities for celebration and reflection as we come together statewide to commemorate our shared history and build a foundation of cultural appreciation for generations to come. Nevada’s one of a kind and diverse history was celebrated throughout the state for an entire year in order to promote pride in the shared heritage of all Nevadans. Nevada’s Sesquicentennial celebration commenced on Nevada Day 2013 and concluded with an expanded Nevada Day celebration October 31, 2014. For more information, please visit www.nevada150.org.
Below is one of the more unique contributions. It came from Carson City resident Ken Beaton who led 154 passengers in singing "Home Means Nevada" aboard a Southwest Airlines flight on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 from Las Vegas to Reno. Beaton said the aircraft was about 25,000 feet in altitude when the song was sung.
