Sandoval appoints Deonne Contine as Nevada Department of Taxation director
Deonne Contine will be the executive director of the Nevada Department of Taxation effective Friday, Gov. Brian Sandoval announced Thursday.
“Deonne has served as a smart and steady deputy within the Department of Taxation. Her wide breadth of experience within state government will enable a smooth transition and ensure continuity and stability within the Department. I am pleased she has agreed to serve the state in this manner and look forward to having her in my Cabinet,” said Sandoval.
Deonne is a native Nevadan who worked as a legal secretary in the San Francisco Bay area before earning her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
In 2000, she returned to Nevada, and in 2005 she earned her Juris Doctor from the Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Deonne began her legal career with a clerkship in the 8th Judicial District Court and later served as a Senior Deputy Attorney General.
During her tenure at the Attorney General’s office she represented several state agencies before the Nevada Supreme Court, including two cases in which she successfully obtained reversals of District Court decisions that had been issued against the Department of Taxation.
Deonne joined the Department of Taxation in 2012 and currently serves as the Chief Deputy Executive Director.
