Carson City man arrested for carrying suspected white-supremacist dangerous weapon
On Friday evening, Special Enforcement Team deputies were patrolling in the area of Carson Street and Robinson Street when they observed a green pickup truck traveling northbound on Carson Street, and saw that the driver was using his cellphone.
In addition, according to the report, the right tail lamp of the vehicle was broken and the license plate light was not functioning.
After stopping the vehicle, deputies noted that they recognized the man from previous drug interactions related to methamphetamine, and that he is a documented White Supremacist gang member.
Dispatch advised that the man is on supervision with the Department of Alternative Sentencing for a theft case, with a condition to obey all laws.
K-9 Deputy Ivo was dispatched to the scene and he conducted an exterior free air sniff around the vehicle. Ivo alerted to the presence of drug odor at the driver's side of the window.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies located a "slung shot" under the driver seat. According to the report, it is a hammerhead with a black and white handkerchief tied through the hole in the middle of the head, creating a brutal striking weapon. A slung shot is a common weapon employed by White Supremacist gangs, according to the report.
The man told deputies he is a carpenter and that the item was used for his employment. He also admitted to using methamphetamine two days prior.
He was arrested and taken to the jail without incident and booked on being in possession of a dangerous weapon, using a cell phone while driving, a broken lamp, and a DAS hold.
