Nevada Day Pow Wow 2014 begins Friday at the Carson Colony
Witness the Grand Entry at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1; or 12 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2. The event is held in the Carson Colony Gym, 2900 South Curry Street.
Native American tribes from all over the United States and Canada come to participate. Check out the Native American vendors, visiting from all over, as they fill the parking lot with booths of arts and crafts and food. Saturday will also include a Horseshoe Shoe Tournament at 1 p.m., with a Hand Games Tournament starting at 2 p.m.
This is a drug-free and alcohol-free family event, and is always strictly enforced. The Pow Wow is organized by the La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow committee, a nonprofit organization that is devoted to uniting their community and striving to bring together young and elderly through dance and music.
The Annual Pow Wow, meaning “the people gathering in Washoe” in the native Washoe language, has been declared an official NV 150 event. Sponsored in part by the Gold Dust West, call 775-885-9000 to reserve your room: don’t forget to give them the code “Pow Wow” for a special rate.
