Mile High Jazz Band Presents Autumn Jazz
Mile High Jazz Band presents Autumn Jazz, a program of big-band music with vocalist Sheryl Adams on Tuesday, October 9, 7:30-9:30 p.m. (new, earlier time) at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street. Comma Coffee is across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City. General admission is $5 at the door; free for age 18 and under.
This performance is part of World Music Days, an annual global event affirming the ideals of tolerance, friendship, and shared humanity, inspired by the life and work of journalist and musician Daniel Pearl. In 2002 Pearl was kidnapped while working as the South Asia Bureau Chief of The Wall Street Journal, based in Mumbai, India. He had gone to Pakistan as part of an investigation into the alleged links between Richard Reid (the "shoe bomber") and Al-Qaeda. He was subsequently killed by his captors. In the spirit of his love for music, his family decided to inspire hope and unity by inviting people everywhere to dedicate a musical event on the day he would have turned 39 years old - October 10, 2002. Thus, the seeds were planted for Daniel Pearl World Music Days - now an entire month of worldwide "Harmony for Humanity" concerts - which reminds the world of the principles by which Pearl lived, the universal power of music and our shared humanity.
Mile High Jazz Band is funded, in part, by a grant from the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and Carson City.
