Ghana certifies Nevada-made product for HIV treatment
The Ministry of Health in Ghana has certified one of the products produced by Carson City, Nevada-based Aloha Medicinals, as a sole therapeutic treatment for HIV infection.
The government ran three independent clinical trials of the product this year, and found it to be effective for those infected with HIV, but who have not yet developed symptoms of AIDS.
Because it is an all-natural product with very few side effects, it makes it easier to administer to patients outside of a hospital setting than the standard regimen of anti-viral drugs, according to John Holliday, director of research for Aloha Medicinals. Holliday said this makes it ideal for countries like Ghana that do not have the same level of medical facilities as developed countries.
Holliday said the trials were conducted completely independent from the company.
“We didn’t fund it, we didn’t give them the drugs, we didn’t even know they were doing it,” Holliday said. “These trials prove that this class of immune enhancement product holds great promise in making HIV a life-long manageable disease.”
