Power outage affects more than 12,400 NV Energy customers throughout Carson City
UPDATE 630PM: NV Energy reports a handful of outages with between 14-25 customers without power this evening in Carson City.

UPDATE 5PM: NV Energy reports 5,626 customers remain without power with the number of outages reduced to two in Carson City.
The outages are centered on South Carson Street and Stewart Street and Fairview and East Fifth Street. NV Energy says the power should be restored by 7:30 p.m. The power company posted this note on its web page:
"A metal structure blowing into our transmission lines is the cause of the outages throughout Carson City, Gardnerville and Lake Tahoe. Crews on scene have removed the structure from our lines and have already restored power to several thousand customers. We are working to restore power to all remaining customers as quickly and as safely as possible."
UPDATE 333PM: NV Energy reports 7,277 customers are without power Wednesday afternoon following at least 10 outages that started just before 2 p.m. NV Energy says it is working on the outages, with power to return to the affected areas between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Some customers are reporting their power has returned.
Parents picking up school children should drive slowly and follow instructions by officers on scene directing traffic.

UPDATE 3:10PM: The tent-like structure that blew into a power line on Saliman Road near Fremont School and is believed to have caused one of the outages around Carson City this afternoon has been removed, according to Carson City dispatch. The flow of traffic remains a concern among emergency crews as several intersections are without signals. Motorists are urged to go slow.

UPDATE 245PM: NV Energy reports at least 12,410 customers are without power around various points in Carson City due to a total of 10 outages. The cause of the outages are under investigation. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution as numerous traffic signals are down.

UPDATE 239PM: Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution as several intersections are without traffic lights. Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies are closing Saliman Road at the high school to allow for students to leave.
Officers are standing by directing traffic.

UPDATE: 230PM: Outages grew to more than 11,200 without power, now citywide. Dispatch reports the outage may have been caused by a tent structure that blew into electrical lines near Fremont school. The Carson City Fire Department is investigating.

A power outage this afternoon in East Carson City is affecting more than 2,600 NV Energy customers. The outage was reported at 1:43 p.m. and is affecting traffic signals at Highway 50 and Fairview among other locations.
The outage was reportedly caused by equipment failures. Check back for updates.
