Suspect jailed for stolen car seen on Facebook was sought as person of interest in stabbing
A man arrested Monday night in Carson City for auto theft and other charges had been a person of interest among Washoe County authorities who had recently asked for the public's help in locating him for his possible involvement in an Aug. 13 stabbing case.
Steven Bumgarner, 36, was arrested Monday night on multiple charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools, battery on a police officer, possession of a controlled and resisting arrest.
The vehicle he was driving was spotted by a citizen near McDonald's on North Carson Street, who had saw a Facebook post from the victim of an auto theft. He called 911 and reported the vehicle to sheriff's deputies who arrived near the McDonald's drive-thru where Bumgarner hit a Carson City Sheriff's Office sergeant and then took off running. He was caught on Sage Street.
He had refused to identify himself to officers and was positively identified through photos and tattoos.
Bumgarner has a number of violent felony convictions, and had been considered armed and dangerous. On August 16, the Northern Nevada Repeat Offender Program told News4.com that Steven Bumgarner was involved in an incident where one person was stabbed Saturday, Aug. 13. No other details were provided.
