Carson City road construction report for August 23-29

Here is the Carson City area road construction report for August 23-29. It will be a busy week for road crews. As always, expect minor delays. When you come across a project, give the crew "a brake" by slowing down within any adjusted speed limit zone.

As a result of the next phase of the Nevada Department of Transportation project on the freeway, Koontz Lane will be closed between Raglan Circle and Edmonds Drive until January 2011.

There will be lane closures on Carson Street during daytime hours near the intersection of Silver Oak Drive as improvements will be made to that intersection. Minor delays are expected.

The following closures are expected to occur next week (weather permitting) because of pavement sealing:

— Goni Road between Boeing Way and Arrowhead Drive, Sunday, August 22, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Detours will be marked.

— There will be one-way traffic on Old Clear Creek Road between Carson Street and Vista Grand Blvd, Monday, August 23, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. There will be a break at the Fuji Fairground Arena area driveway for access to Bodines.

— The inside lane will be closed in each direction on Carson Street at Eagle Station Drive on Tuesday, August 24, and Wednesday, August 25, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

— The inside lane will be closed in each direction on Carson Street at Snyder Avenue on Wednesday, August 25, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The Roop Street widening project is continuing and is expected to be completed by the end of 2010. The following impacts are expected this week:

— US Highway 50/William Street will have intermittent lane closures at Roop Street. A single travel lane may be restricted from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for eastbound traffic or a single travel lane may be restricted from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for westbound traffic.

— Long Street will be closed to through traffic from Stewart Street to Marian Avenue and closed to and to all traffic at the intersection with Roop Street, Monday through Wednesday.

— Roop Street will be closed to through traffic at Robinson Street. Local business traffic and patrons of the Carson City Community Center will have access via Roop Street but may also use William Street.

Washington Street will be closed to all traffic between Roop Street and the public library driveway. Library patrons should use Stewart Street to Washington Street for access.

— The intersection of Caroline Street and Roop Street will be closed to through traffic through early September.

— Roop Street is closed from William Street to Stewart Street through the completion of the project. Traffic may cross Roop Street at Corbett Street.

The inside lane on South Carson Street will be closed between Clearview Drive and the Spooner Junction in both directions during the night hours of 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., because of work on the median.

The Nevada Department of Transportation is working to add a third northbound lane on U.S. Highway 395 between Jacks Valley Road and Lupin Drive. Work continues with single lane closures on northbound US 395 between Jacks Valley Road and Lupin Drive between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Shoulder work will continue during the daytime hours with no impacts to traffic.

Because of utility work, Emerson Drive will have a lane closure with flaggers just south of the freeway Monday and Tuesday. Minor delays are expected. Due to water utility improvements, the following closures are expected to occur:

— Butti Way will be closed between Airport Road and Fairview Drive (local traffic allowed) on weekdays. Detours will be marked.

— Hells Bells Road between Riparian Way and Parkhill Drive will be closed to through traffic (local traffic allowed) all week. Detours will be marked.

— Third Street will be closed between Curry Street and Carson Street on August 27, from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. for a special event.
