The Shooting Fire, which started late Sunday morning behind C Hill and spread quickly near the Carson Colony Indian reservation off South Curry Street, is currently 30 percent contained this morning after having burned 250 acres of sagebrush and grass, said Shannon Brophy of Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center in Minden.
Fire crews remain on scene, working to close containment and carefully monitoring the burn area, Brophy said.
She said the fire is currently burning Southeast from the backside of C Hill and away from the Indian colony.
No additional brush has burned as of this morning, she said, and no structures are currently threatened as the fire is burning away from residential areas.
Brophy confirmed that the Carson City Sheriff’s Office lifted road closures and evacuation orders last night, and residents were allowed to return to their homes.
Those conditions remain in effect as of this morning, Brophy said, adding that the public needed to be extra careful when out and about under extremely dry conditions.
“We just want to remind everyone to be very cautious under these conditions,” she said. “It’s still very dry out.”
KRNV News 4 in Reno reports the Carson City Sheriff's Office has said the Shooting Fire is believed to have been started accidentally by target shooters at an old shooting range behind C Hill.
