Evacuations lifted for Carson Colony area; Air attacks continue with wildfire burning in southwest Carson City
UPDATE 8PM: The Shooting Fire is 40 percent contained with eyes on all fire lines from multiple fire agencies, said Carson City Fire Department spokeswoman Stacey Belt. Mapping has the fire size to be between 200 to 300 acres, she said. Several fire crews will remain on scene to close the containment gap.

UPDATE 4:33PM: Curry Street is now open. Firefighters continue to attack the Shooting Fire via helicopters. The fire has quieted down since it became active earlier this afternoon, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch. So far around 200 acres have burned. The fire is moving in a southerly direction.

UPDATE 4:05PM: Carson City Fire Department reports that evacuations have been lifted for the Shooting Fire in the Carson Colony area west of Curry Street in southwest Carson City. The fire is at around 200 acres in size and is burning away from structure, according to Stacey Belt, public information officer for Carson City Fire Department. No structures were burned however a fence was destroyed. No injuries have been reported.

UPDATE: 3:10PM: The Shooting Fire is now at around 100 acres, and no structures have been damaged or destroyed, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. As of around 3 p.m. the fire was moving away from the threatened neighborhoods along the Carson Colony area west of Curry Street. No injuries have been reported. The air attack on the fire continues.

UPDATE 2:38 PM: Mandatory evacuations are in place for the Carson Colony area all along Curry Street. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said the city is working on opening an evacuation center.
All people are advised to stay clear of the area.

UPDATE 2:22: Curry Street is closed, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies are getting people out of homes, with some refusing to leave. Flames are within 100 yards of structures, according to firefighters on scene. All Carson Colony residents along Curry Street are advised to leave the area immediately.
Additional fire teams have been called from Lake Tahoe and Reno.

UPDATE 2PM: There is mandatory evacuations underway for homes in the Carson Colony area including Washoe, Oneida, Shoshone, and Boyle street areas, according to Carson City Dispatch. Evacuees can go to the Carson Colony gymnasium. The fire is headed east toward these areas. People should leave the area immediately.
The fire is approximately 100 yards from the structures, according to units on scene.

UPDATE 1:30PM: The Shooting Fire burning in southwest Carson City has been mapped by fire crews on scene and is around 20 acres and growing. Air attack includes an air tanker, three helicopters and two single engine air tankers. No structures are threatened at this time.
"They are hitting it hard with air attack and making progress," said Juan Zepeda of Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.

UPDATE 1PM: The fire, which has been named the “Shooting Fire” is reported to be at least 40 acres, and burning in mostly grass in the hills in southwest Carson City on tribal land, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.
Fire teams from Carson City, the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Nevada Division of Forestry are working the fire.
The fire was reported at around 11 a.m. though the fire is under investigation, it is suspected to have been caused by target shooters up in the hills.

UPDATE 12:30PM: Fire crews and air attacks from around the region are hitting the fire in the hills above Curry Street with water drops and retardant. Flames are visible from Curry Street as the fire went east over a flank, producing a combination of smoke and steam.

Carson City Fire Department was called just after 11 a.m. Sunday morning to a brush fire on the southwest side of Carson City in the hills behind the Greenhouse Garden Center.
The brush fire is on tribal land and is producing smoke visible from the C-Hill area. Firefighters are calling for a helicopter to drop water on the fire.
The terrain where the fire is burning is difficult, but light winds are helping to keep the fire from spreading. No structures are threatened at this time.
