NV Energy: Faulty underground cables blamed for widespread Dayton power outage
A power outage Wednesday night in Dayton that affected more than 2,400 customers was fully restored by 11:50 p.m., said Faye Andersen, spokeswoman for NV Energy.
The cause of the outage, the second within the past month, was determined to be two runs of bad underground cable. Work crews had to re-energize the line and then get replacement lines during the outage, said Andersen.
The power failure happened at 8 p.m. initially affecting 2,479 customers. As repairs were made, the numbers lessened with all having power restored by midnight, said Andersen.
The Dayton area experienced a similar outage on July 16, 2015. In that outage, there were also around 2,400 customers that went without power.
