Sen. Reid earmarks $400k for City Center/Nugget Project business incubator
A financial services bill working its way through the U.S. Senate contains a $400,000 earmark that appears to be destined for the business incubator that is part of the planned Carson City Center/Nugget Project.
Under section 524 of S.3677, the markup of the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act FY 2011 that was voted out of the Senate Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Subcommittee on July 29, there is the following language:
"...$400,000 shall be for the City of Carson City, High Tech Business Collaborative, Carson City, Nevada..."
This earmark appears under the section of the bill for the Small Business Administration, that contains $1.1 billion in funding similar business-related projects throughout the country.
On Sen. Harry Reid's website, it touts the funding as a way to help spur business growth and attract entrepreneurs to Nevada.
"Included in the funding is $400,000 to establish a business incubator in Carson City that will create a downtown hub for entrepreneurs and start-ups," according to the press release.
The press release lists the City of Carson City as the requestor for the funding:
Project: Carson City High Tech Business Collaborative
Requestor: City of Carson City, NV
Location: Carson City, NV
Amount: $400,000
Description: Carson City officials are laying the groundwork to attract additional high tech companies to Nevada. This new business collaborative will provide resources and assistance to high tech companies that are exploring the possibility of re-locating to Nevada.
