Gas leak in Dayton forces some evacuations
A gas leak late Wednesday morning forced the evacuation of some homes and businesses in the area of Occidental and Riverboat in the Dayton area.
The incident happened at around 11:50 a.m. when a piece of construction equipment cut a 2-inch high pressure gas line at the intersection of Occidental and Riverboat.
Evacuations were initially ordered through the Lyon County Sheriff's Office and the Fire Department. No explosions or injuries were reported. One medical assist was called for a person not self-ambulatory. The gas has been shut off.
The Fire Department is clearing the area, checking for safety precautions before allowing residents back into their homes.
Some evacuees are being let back into their homes in the Ring Road area. A second rupture caused by the first is now being secured. Delays are expected for people to return to their homes in the Occidental Drive area.
