Car wash raises more than $200 for veteran graves
Inspired by the effort of a 10 year-old Redding, California, youth to place American flags and flowers on the unattended gravesites of United States military veterans, Carson City fourth-grader Emma Spears held a car wash to help Preston Sharp reach his fundraising goal.
Spears' mother, Leslie, said Friday afternoon's car wash raised more than $212 for Preston Sharp's campaign to recognize deceased veterans who have been forgotten.
Spears, 8, said her car wash fundraiser just felt like the right thing to do for the many veterans laying at rest in cemeteries that nobody seems to care for.
"It helps me feel like I'm helping to do something right," she said.
