Hazy skies around Carson City coming from Soberanes Fire in California
California wildfires are creating a haze around Carson City, according to environmental health officials. The smoke affecting Carson City, Carson Valley and Reno areas is from the Soberanes Fire, located in the Las Padres National Forest in Monterey County near the coast north of Big Sur.
Air quality is being monitored around the region and alerts may be issued if the air quality worsens, said JoAnn Kittrell, public information manager for the Nevada Department of Conservation & Natural Resources. As of Monday around noon the air quality in Carson City was moderate. Reno and Sparks area is unhealthy for sensitive groups due to the smoke.

The Soberanes wildfire is burning Garrapata State Park, Monterey County, Calif. It has burned nearly 15,000 acres and as of Monday morning, and is 5 percent contained. Roughly 1,600 homes are threatened in the wildfire, according to CalFire officials.
