Carson City authorities make arrest in multi-county burglary investigation

Carson City authorities have arrested a woman after finding several stolen iPods and other property in an investigation that covers multiple Northern Nevada counties.
Heather Olea, 22, who lives in the 2400 block of Dori Way was arrested on Monday and faces a felony charge of possession of stolen property and a misdemeanor warrant for failure to attend substance abuse counseling. Her bail was set at $25,500.
According to the arrest report, deputies were contacted by dispatch at around 5 p.m. on July 14 to respond to the Dori Way home to assist Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies with a multi-jurisdictional investigation of numerous vehicles and residential burglaries.
Carson City Detective Daniel Gonzales was briefed of the investigation and at around 10 p.m. received search warrant permission from Carson City Municipal Court Judge John Tatro, according to the arrest report.
The house was searched and several electronic items believed to be stolen were found, according to the arrest report.
On Monday, authorities went back to the home and contacted Olea, who it was learned through a background check had a warrant for her arrest for failure to attend substance abuse counseling.
According to the arrest report, "in plain view was numerous electronic items that were not there on Wednesday, July 14." The detective asked Olea about the items and she said that a friend had dropped them off on Sunday.
Having a valid active search warrant, the detective recovered numerous items believed to be stolen, including a blue iPod that had a name engraved on it, which it turns out was reported stolen recently by a victim in Douglas County.
Olea was arrested on the warrant charge and on a charge of possession of stolen property. According to the arrest report, deputies also recovered five additional iPods from the home and two digital camers as well as a plastic bag of jewelry. Olea was read her Miranda rights and she signed a waiver in order to talk to authorities, according to the report. She told authorities that she believed all of the electronic items and jewelry was stolen and she knew it was. Because the investigation covers three counties, officers are still trying to contact all of the victims in the case.

A Carson City woman faces charges including child neglect and endangerment after leaving a six-year-old in an apartment for several hours and coming home drunk.
Tessla Higuera, 20, was arrested at her home in the 700 block of Silver Oak. Charges include child neglect and endangerment, a gross misdemeanor, and misdemeanor minor consuming alcohol. Bail was set at $2,737.
Deputies were dispatched to the Silver Oak Drive apartment on Monday at about 10 p.m. A deputy attempted to make contact with the woman regarding a threat report but she wasn't there. A six-year-old nephew of the woman answered the door and told the deputy that his aunt had been drinking since the afternoon and left him alone in the apartment. The child allowed the officer inside the apartment where he saw trash on floor and piled up in the kitchen area; a large amount of dirty clothing on the floor and bedrooms, dirty dishes in the kitchen sink area kitchen knives in the open and a pair of scissors in the open, according to the report. The deputy also reports seeing an open beer can within the six-year-old's reach. The child stated that the woman was probably with his 3-year-old younger sister.
At around 11:50 p.m. the woman and young children arrived at the front door, with the woman swaying back and forth and leaning her forehead on the apartment's front door, according to the report. Seeing that she was intoxicated, with red watery eyes, a strong odor of alcohol, and slurred speech when she spoke, the deputy asked the woman her age and then arrested her, according to the report.
The woman twice refused a preliminary breath test. Child Protective Services were called and the children were released to relatives.
