Carson City man arrested for possession of methamphetamine, marijuana

A 49-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of Highway 50 E. and Brown Street Friday evening for suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, violation of a suspended sentence, and driving with revoked or suspended registration.

Eric John Sunderland was arrested after deputies were on patrol in the area and conducted a random registration check on a vehicle driving past, which returned with suspended registration.

Deputies made contact with the driver, identified as Sunderland, and deputies could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from his person, according to the report.

Sunderland admitted to having a “bag of marijuana” and a marijuana pipe in the vehicle. He admitted to smoking marijuana approximately 12 hours before the stop.

Deputies noted they did not observe any signs he was impaired.

Dispatch advised Sunderland was under supervision with a no drugs clause and wanted him arrested.

At the jail, deputies located two small plastic bags on his person which contained a white crystalline substance. He was additionally booked for possession of methamphetamine.

Ryan FitzGerald was arrested after a concerned citizen called reporting a man inside of an SUV who appeared to be using drugs.

Deputies met with the citizen who said they saw a man using drugs inside the vehicle, and they also saw a meth pipe. They pointed out the apartment the man went into.

Deputies knocked on the apartment door and spoke with the man, later identified as FitzGerald, who denied using drugs but matched the description the citizen gave. He had “extremely jittery” behavior, stiff muscles and constricted pupils.

According to the report, deputies told FitzGerald they knew he was under the influence of narcotics and he “somewhat agreed.”

Deputies asked the man if they could search his car. He unlocked the vehicle and inside they found:

— A 23-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 2000 block of E. William Street late Thursday evening for domestic battery first.

The woman was arrested after deputies were dispatched to the area on reports of a domestic battery. When they arrived, they made contact with the woman who told deputies she had discovered the father of her child was cheating on her, and they began arguing but it never got physical.

Deputies spoke with the man who told deputies he and the woman had been broken up for over a year and he is dating someone else. He told deputies he was with the woman and their child so they could celebrate the holiday as a family for his daughter.

He told deputies the woman has a drinking problem and recently was arrested for DUI.

Deputies asked if the argument got physical. He said she had been pushing him and tried to get his phone. He said he did not want to press charges and refused to complete a statement. Deputies noted he had fresh scratch marks on his forearm which appeared defensive in nature.

Deputies spoke to a witness who told deputies they saw a white truck with a man, woman and child in the bed of the truck. The woman got angry and began yelling foul language. The man stepped out of the bed of the truck. The woman became angrier and louder. From the bed of the truck, the woman “pummeled the man’s head,” and the man retreated into the cab of the truck. The woman then began pounding on the truck and hit the truck with her fists. The woman continued getting louder and more aggravated.

The witness completed a statement.

The woman was taken into custody without incident.
