Carson City sheriff's log: Arrests made for meth sales, trafficking

A 24-year-old woman was arrested Friday in the 1800 block of North Edmonds Drive on felony charges of possession of controlled substance for sales and possession of controlled substance, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Lina Flores was gambling at a casino when an officer suspected her of being underage and asked to see her identification. Flores admitted that she did not have her identification and gave the officer a false name. After being told she would be in more trouble for lying she gave her real name and date of birth to the officer. The officer arrested at 2:31 p.m. her for obstructing an officer and proceeded to conduct a search of Flores for any weapons or drugs.

According to the report, Flores told the officer she had a gram on her. The officer located the bag of suspected methamphetamine and a glass pipe with residue. The officer also located eight bags of methampamphetamine and two other bags of an unknown substance suspected to be mixed with methamphetamine for sales. She also faces misdemeanor charges of and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing an officer. Bail: $14,274.

In other arrests: A 22-year-old man and 26-year-old woman were arrested Friday at 6:33 p.m. on the corner of College Parkway and Retail. The man was arrested on misdemeanor charges of brake lamp required, throwing lit cigarette from vehicle onto the roadway, no insurance, possession of drug paraphernalia, warrant contempt of court and speeding . The woman, Amanda McGarry, was arrested on felony charges possession of counterfeit substance and possession of controlled substance.

An officer was traveling in the area when a vehicle was observed with no operable right stop lamp and traveling 48 miles per hour in a posted 40 mile per hour zone. The driver of the vehicle threw a burning cigarette out the window and it hit the pavement still smoking. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was contacted. He admitted to throwing the cigarette out the window and was unable to provide any proof of insurance. The driver also admitted to having hypodermic in his pocket, after being searched officers found a spoon, burnt pen tube and a Q tip. The driver had a confirmed Churchill County warrant and was arrested. Bail: $3,258.

The passenger, McGarry attempted to conceal something under her dress while the officers were speaking to the driver. According to the report, the items she attempted to conceal were wrapped in plastic torn bags most commonly used to conceal narcotics. The officers’ K-9 partner conducted a search of the vehicle and alerted. A glass pipe with marijuana residue was found inside the vehicle. Bail: $22,500.

— A 36-year-old man, Vicente Hernandez was arrested Friday at 5:43 p.m. at the corner of Woodside Drive and Siskiyou on felony charges of trafficking in methamphetamine, possession for sales and possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of driving without a license and stop sign violation.

Officers were in the area of Woodside Drive and Siskiyou when they noticed a vehicle driving over the solid white “fog line” printed on the roadway and failing to stop at a stop sign. The officers initiated a traffic stop and proceeded to speak to the driver. The driver identified himself as Vicente Hernandez and was arrested immediately after an officer saw him hastily stuff a plastic bag of a controlled substance into the seat next to him.

The officers used their K-9 partner to do an exterior sniff of the vehicle and the K-9 alerted on the vehicle. Upon searching, three bindles were located, each with an amount of methamphetamine. Total amount of methamphetamine confiscated was 12.5 grams. The officers also located a small digital scale with methamphetamine residue. Bail: $27,804.

The second partner was asked to exit the vehicle and was checked for outstanding warrants. The subject showed a warrant for his arrest. Bail: $1,000.

— A 23- year-old Lovelock man was arrested Friday at 9:30 a.m. on a felony charge parole/probation old and a misdemeanor charge of violation of suspended sentence. An officer arrested Steven Wedell Sallaz on a Carson City Justice Court warrant for Violation of a Suspended Sentence for Failure to Report. Sallaz was also given a parole and probation hold for a violation of his parole. Bail: $3,000.

— A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday at 12:37 p.m. in the 800 block of East Williams Street on misdemeanor charges violation of suspended sentence, obstructing, driving with no valid license and suspended registration.

An officer was dispatched to assist another in a traffic stop. The subject ran from the area he was stopped and was heading east. The male subject jumped over the fence into the backyard of a home and continued east through several more backyards. The officers located the subject in a backyard and arrested him. The man had a warrant for violation of suspended sentence issued out of Carson Township. The man also had two traffic violations. Bail: $3,826.

— A 29-year-old Dayton man was arrested on Friday at 9:00 p.m. in the 800 block of East Musser Street on a misdemeanor charge violation of suspended sentence. Officers transported the man on an outstanding Carson City Justice warrant. Bail: $3,000.

— A 39-year-old Carson City man was arrested on Friday at 5:52 p.m. in the 1800 block of East Long Street on a misdemeanor charge domestic battery. An officer responded to a domestic dispute call in the area. The officer made contact with the subject who stated he and his girlfriend were having a verbal argument. The officer spoke to the woman who said her boyfriend threw a cigarette pack and a bucket at her. According to the report, the woman said the bucket struck her chin and foot. The officer notice redness and possible bruising on her chin and bleeding on her toe. The officer determined that the man was the primary physical aggressor. Bail: $3,137.

— A 68-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday at 5:41 a.m. on the corner of Stewart and John Street on misdemeanor charges DUI first offense and hit and run property. An officer was dispatched to the area for a hit and run. According to the report, a silver vehicle wan into a barrier then drove off. The officer observed a vehicle driving with a significant amount of damage to the front end. After conducting a traffic stop, the officer observed the subject bleeding from her left arm and her mouth. The woman spoke very slowly and lethargic. The officer conducted Field Sobriety Tests and the woman performed unsatisfactory. She was arrested for suspicion of DUI and hit and run. Bail: $1,774.

— A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday at 12:03 a.m. in the 2000 block of Columbia Way on misdemeanor charges of failure to appear traffic citation and suspended registration.

An officer was on patrol in the area when a vehicle was observed. After conducting a registration check on the vehicle, it revealed that the registration was suspended. The vehicle was stopped and the driver and passenger of the car were checked for wants/warrants. The driver had a warrant issued for his arrest. Bail: $322.

— A 56-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday at 12:14 a.m. in the 1400 block of South Carson Street on a misdemeanor charge driving under the influence of drugs.

An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was reported by a complainant as driving unsafely. The officer made contact with the driver who, according to the report had droopy eyelids and appeared sleepy. When the woman opened her purse, the officer saw a large bottle, later confirmed to be “Oxycontin.” The woman agreed to take a Standard Field Sobriety test. She did not perform the tests as explained or demonstrated. The officer concluded that the woman was under the influence of prescription drugs and could not operate the vehicle safely. Bail: $1,137.

— A 26-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday at 8:52 a.m. in the 1100 block of South Nevada Street on a misdemeanor charge contempt of court warrant. An officer was dispatched to the area in regards to a female subject with a warrant. The officer approached the home of the woman and checked her for wants/warrants. The woman came back with a confirmed warrant for contempt of court. Bail: $500..

On Saturday, April 20, Carson City Community Gardeners and the UNR Extension Master Gardeners came together to get the Community Garden ready for the growing season. For two hours they removed weeds, spread mulch and prepped their garden beds for the season.

In collaboration with Chartwells, the Carson City School District foodservice partner, Culinary Arts students from Ms. Tammy Borreman’s class at Carson Middle School competed in a “Discovery Kitchen Cook Off.” Similar to a mini version of the Food Network’s Iron Chef, the timed cooking competition featured teams of three students who prepared succulent dishes for a judging panel.

Six local bowlers were inducted in the third class of the Carson Country Bowling Association Hall of Fame at their annual meeting on Saturday, April 27, at HomeGrown Bowl. Carson Country is the local association of the U.S. Bowling Congress.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will hold a "Sheep Talk" this Monday, April 29 from noon to 1 p.m. so residents can learn from Carson City staff about the popular fuel reduction program used annually with the use of "firefighting" sheep.

Girls on the Run Sierras is a character-building program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade operating in the Reno-Tahoe area.
