Motor officer challenge wraps up Saturday in Mills Park
The 13th annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, wrapped up training exercises Saturday afternoon at Mills Park, a space shared concurrently with the Rockabilly Riot hot-rod car show event.
Motorcycle officers from across the nation, including as far away as Florida, participated in the challenge.
While there is a competitive element to the challenge, it is much more than a race against the clock. The challenge is an essential training module used to help motor officers hone and improve their skills in order to stay safe on the road, the event announcer said in an address to Saturday's crowd.
The challenge was held in Mills Park this year instead of downtown Carson City, because of the Carson Street construction.
Proceeds from t-shirt sales and donations at the 2016 Extreme Motor Officer Challenge benefited Catmandu, a local feline rescue shelter adopted by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Motor Unit earlier this spring.
