As we set our radar ahead to Tuesday, June 25, 2019, we say hello Carson City and welcome to a bevy of events ahead including activities for children of all ages, a Muscle Powered morning walk, evening hike and bike ride, a cyber security awareness workshop hosted by DeBug Computer, a job fair at the Carson Nugget, art showings, a delicious taste of France via Bleu Café Culinary Travelers Club and more. — Tuesday Morning Walk: John Mankins West hosted by Muscle Powered. 8 a.m. Join Muscle Powered for its weekly one hour walks to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City! Meet at 8 a.m. at 3051 Oak Ridge Drive and West College Parkway. This is a pavement path. Water and closed-toe shoes required. All walks are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths. If it rains, snows, or air quality is unsafe due to smoke, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way. — Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: Graphically Defined. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This a group exhibition of work by 17 Western Nevada College students. This exhibit includes a wide variety of art including ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting and photography that shows the diversity of the students’ creativity. The Business Resource Innovation Center (BRIC) is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. 108 E Proctor St.,
Carson City.

— Carson City Yoga hosts 8-week 'Yoga for Arthritis' program. 7:30 a.m. This 8-week series is for anyone living with arthritis or with similar symptoms of pain and stiffness. In this gentle class, you will learn how to use yoga and modifications to manage your arthritis. We may use chairs, blocks, the wall, or other props to support your body in the practice as needed. The class includes information about meditation, diet, and physical activity to support you in your healing, offering the full benefits of a complete yoga practice. In addition, you can learn how to create a home practice, allowing you to extend the benefits of yoga into your every day life. This class comes with a manual, and meets twice a week for 8 weeks. This is an 8 week series, meeting 2 times per week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Carson City Yoga, in our easily accessible 7th Street Location: 116 E 7th St, No. 4. Class Pricing is for the full 8 weeks (16 classes) and includes the manual: Standard Rate: $195 registration. This class series builds on itself each week, and so it is highly encouraged that you attend all classes. Missed classes are not refundable or transferable.

— Capital City Arts Initiative presents 'New Crop 2019' exhibit. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "New Crop 2019", by artists Mark Combs and Frances Melhop at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The reception and the exhibition are free and the public is cordially invited. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sculptor Mark Combs gives viewers two approaches to his metalwork. His earlier distressed metal car-part sculptures are ornamented with soldered rods and bolts reflecting a ruptured system both socially and figuratively. His carefully hammered bone pieces came into shape after hours of forging as a nod to death and celebrations of life. Photographer Frances Melhop documents aging rural structures with classic color photography. In Vanish, her printed enlargements of unnamed 19th century portraits on silk are elevated to fly across our vision like fleeting memories.

— Carson City Cooperative Extension 2 Day Camps: How to Raise Small Farm Critters. 8:30 a.m. Carson City University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, in partnership with Carson City Parks and Recreation and Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch, is offering two weekly sessions at Silver Saddle Ranch, 2648 Carson City Road in Carson City, for youth who are not able to keep or raise a small farm animal to experience working with either rabbits or goats. Area 4-H leaders will bring their animals for attendees, 9 – 14 years of age, to work with in these hands on day camps. Attendees will learn what it takes to select and raise a rabbit or goat – handling, health and nutrition, showing, housing and how to have fun. A fee of $50 per attendee, per camp, includes water, snacks and basic educational materials. Week Two: Funny and Fabulous Goats – June 25 – 28, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Please call the Carson City Cooperative Extension office at 775-887-2252 to register for one or both day camps.

— Creative Kids Camp offered at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center. 9 a.m. This year, the Creative Kids Camp at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center is exploring nature through arts and crafts. Children can create a variety of items inspired by nature including garden stepping stones and rock accents. Dragon flies will soar in and out of a yard. We will capture the wind in a water bottle. And feeding the flighty feathered friends will be fun. And among other crafts, we may find some silly snails. See the video here. Kids ages 6-13 will make items great for the garden or indoors. All inspired by nature. The Creative Kids Camp runs June 24-28 from 9 a.m. to noon.

— Children's Museum in Carson City to host summer science camp. 9 a.m. The Children's Museum in Carson City will host a Summer Science Camp this year. Participants will get hands on lessons in science, art, music and literary projects tied to the Carson River watershed, as well as learning about regional geology and mining, geothermal and solar energy, biomes of Northern Nevada and hot air balloons. The Science Camp is sponsored by Southwest Gas. The camp is $100 per child for Children's Museum of Northern Nevada members and $150 per child for non-members. — Cyber fraud is on the rise: Carson City's DeBug Computer offers class to protect yourself. 9:30 a.m. Free Cyber Security Class. Learn how to protect yourself from Internet Scams, Telephone Scams, Real Estate "Closing Scams", Email and Netflix Payment Scams. Carson City Senior Center-In the Computer Lab, 911 Beverly Drive. Presented By The Experts At DeBug Computer.

— Comstock Town Offers Free Summer Events for All Ages. United Way hosts School Readiness and Educational Fun Fair. 10 a.m. A number of different groups sponsor an annual summer series of public events in historic Silver City. This summer, events include a free family-friendly concert by Kantu Inka, visits from award-winning visiting artists and writers, kids science and engineering activities, plus a floral design class, a coding workshop, lectures and more for adults and teens. All of the children’s STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Math) events are co-sponsored by Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties. United Way offers its annual School Readiness and Educational Fun Fair for preschoolers and their parents on Tuesday, June 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Silver City School House. The event is perfect for children ages 1 year to 6 years and their parents and grandparents. The event, which includes children's books, healthy snacks, plus arts and crafts and hands-on science and literacy activities led by United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra, is free. Events take place at the Silver City School House (community center) or the town park and outdoor stage (the Silver Pavilion), all located at 385 High Street, Silver City, Nevada 89428. Silver City is on the Comstock, three miles from Virginia City; seven miles from Dayton; and 12 miles from Carson City.

— Nevada Artists Association Presents: Spirit of America. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Spirit of America is a judged show with ribbons for the Spirit of America winner, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and honorable mention winners in each category. The reception and awards presentation will be Saturday, June 22 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. 449 West King Street.

— Carson City's Food For Thought to provide daily no cost lunches for kids this summer. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to noon. In a last minute announcement, Carson City based non-profit Food For Thought, Inc. will continue the Summer Lunch Program during the 2019 season. The program provides free and nutritious lunches to all children under 18. Lunch must be eaten onsite and will be served daily, Monday thru Friday, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. in Carson City starting Monday, June 17 until August 9. This year only one serving location is available and will take place at The Bridge Church at 901 N. Stewart Street, Carson City. The Summer Lunch Program provides meals to area children who are unable to access other lunch programs during the months off from school.

— Computer Classes for Beginners at Carson City Library. 11:30 a.m. This class will focus on beginning internet skills. Various computer topics will be taught every week, including Mouse & Keyboard; Files, Folders, and Programs; the Internet; Email; and Windows 10. Registration is required. — Carson Nugget hosts Job Fair. 2 p.m. The Carson Nugget is pleased to announce that we will be opening a new bar on the main casino floor called the Lucky 7 Bar. The Lucky 7 Bar will be a full service vodka themed slot bar with specialty vodka drinks, draft beer, and a margarita machine. There will be 24 seats including a lounge, and 14 new bar-top slot machines. We are hosting a job fair on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 from 2 to 5 p.m. to fill beverage positions as well as other positions casino-wide. All levels of experience are invited to attend the event which takes place in the Events Center on the 2nd floor in Room B of the casino on N. Carson Street.

— Bleu Café Culinary Travelers Club: Tour de France. 5 to 8 p.m. We will feature dishes from Vichy, Lyonne, Burgundy, and Dax France. We will honor the French tradition of “Apéro”, the gathering of friends, socializing and enjoying an apéritif before the anticipated meal. The Tour de France dinner will consist of 6 courses, all of which will be made in house, prepared using the highest quality ingredients and time tested techniques. Please join us! All Culinary Travelers Club members will receive a 15 percent discount. Doors open at 5 p.m., first course is served at 6 p.m., seating is limited, purchase tickets at Bleu Café or by calling 775-297-3301.

— Tuesday Evening Hike: Silver Saddle Ranch to Mexican Dam hosted by Muscle Powered. 5:30 p.m. Join Muscle Powered for its leader-led hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors! Meet outside the entrance to Silver Saddle Ranch in parking area just off of Carson River Road. Water and sturdy closed-toed shoes are required. Hat, sunscreen and hiking poles recommended. Tuesday evening hikes will be 4-6 miles in length.

— Muscle Powered Ladies Mountain Bike Ride: 5:30 to 7 p.m. Come join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City. Muscle Powered is a local non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building. A schedule of all upcoming activities and events can be found at www.musclepowered.org/calendar. The Ladies’ Mountain Bike Ride is every Tuesday evening. Enjoy the great outdoors with the ladies of Muscle Powered (and the Senators Cycling Team) Helmets are required. Meet at Foothill Dr. (Pooh Corner).

— Tuesday night archery shoots return to Carson City's Centennial Park Archery Range. 5:30 p.m. Every Tuesday evening, 5:30 to dusk, the Clear Creek Bowmen host its Tuesday Night Archery Shoots at the Centennial Park Archery Range in Carson City. Both traditional and 3D targets are available. The target range is open shooting for use at no cost. There is a $5 fee (kids 17 and under are free) to shoot the 3D animal targets. We have archery equipment, volunteers and instructors to get you started. Come on out and join us. It’s a great way to experience the world of archery. Open to all ages. — Art Night Out at Carson City Library. 6 to 7 p.m. Supplies are limited, register online by going here. Join us once a month to relax through art! Every month we will explore a different technique to use art to help de-stress. All artistic levels welcome. Please note: Children 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times. 900 North Roop Street.

— Empty Bowls, Open Studio at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 6 to 8:30 p.m. Create an empty bowl to donate to charity, instruction will be offered to create and paint a bowl or create something on our own during open studio session. Open studio time is free of charge and open to the public. 1215 S. Carson St., Carson City.

— WNC Continuing Education offers Zumba class. 5:45 p.m. Zumba is a dance form and aerobics fitness program. Zumba involves dance and aerobic movements performed to energetic Latin and pop music from countries around the world. The choreography incorporates hip hop, soca, samba, salsa, meringue and mambo. Squats and lunges are also included. Students should wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes, and bring a towel, water and a positive attitude! No prior dance experience is required - Zumba is about making friends, getting a workout, and enjoying yourself! Classes are held at the WNPAC dance studio, located at 951 N Stewart St. The class is $48 and our direct line is 775-445-4241.

— Nevada Arts Council Presents: Bits and Pieces of the Silver State. 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Reno artist Patricia Wallis has a background in plein air painting as well as aerial painting working on canvas, board and copper. Over the past decade she has worked exclusively on copper which gives the image a unique luminescence not found when working with canvas or board. Oil painting on copper goes back to the 15th century although it is rarely used by contemporary artists. Bits and Pieces of the Silver State feature the various elements of nature and provide conceptual basis inn Wallis’ paintings. Go here for more information about Nevada Arts Council.

— Dance Workshop for Couples at Yaple's Ballroom. In this beginner level workshop you must have a partner in this class, we will not be rotating. It can be a friend, husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend, you just have to have a buddy with you to be your partner. We are going to learn the style of dance of Night Club Two Step and some other exercises that will help you with your connection to your partner. $20. — Capital City Arts Initiative presents 'The Lay of the Land' at Carson City showing. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents an exhibition, "The Lay of the Land," by artist Fred Howland in the Community Center’s Sierra Room, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition runs now through June 30, 2019. Howland’s passion is to create a sense of time and place through his photographs. He returns to favorite sites to work, like Hope Valley and Genoa, returning to take repeat images in different seasons and lighting. His interest in landscapes go back to his New England roots where he was more comfortable in the outdoors than in school classrooms. The Sierra Room is open to the public during Carson City official meetings including the first and third Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and many afternoons, Monday through Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m.
