Carson City sheriff's deputies arrest second suspect in June 1 armed robbery
A second suspect identified in the June 1 armed robbery of a Carson City woman was arrested Friday morning after investigators received an anonymous tip that he was hiding inside a car, a Carson City sheriff’s lieutenant said.
Ricky Adams, 29, was found inside a vehicle hiding underneath blankets in the 1100 block of Thompson Street, said Carson City Sheriff’s Office Lt. Brian Humphrey. An accomplice, Jac Owen, 24, was arrested June 11 at a Jumbo Way home on three unrelated outstanding felony warrants.
A warrant for robbery with use of a deadly weapon was issued Wednesday and Owen was booked on that warrant. Adams also faces a felony warrant charge of robbery with a deadly weapon.
In the robbery earlier this month, two men followed the victim from Casino Fandango to her Sonoma Street residence just after 3 a.m.
When the victim’s vehicle pulled into the driveway, one of the two suspects approached the woman, pointed a pistol at her, and demanded money or he would shoot her. The second man took the victim’s purse from the woman’s vehicle. The suspects then fled in a pickup.
Humphrey noted the robbery happened after the two men allegedly targeted the woman while she was at the casino. He said it is always a good idea for people to be aware of their surroundings, especially if they have access to large amounts of cash.
“This is a an example that crimes like this can happen. Victims can be targeted in casinos or around ATM machines,” he said. “It’s always good for folks to remember to be aware and look around them when they have large amounts of cash.”
