Carson City woman sentenced to prison for transporting methamphetamine
A 45-year-old Carson City woman who pled guilty in April to drug charges was sentenced Tuesday to 48 months in prison, with minimum parole eligibility after 12 months, for transporting methamphetamine.
The Tri-Net Narcotics Task Force received a tip Aug. 23, 2012, that Janna Hinsen, who had an active warrant, was staying at a location in Carson City, and would be picking up methamphetamine that day.
On August 24, 2012, Task Force Officers made contact with Hinsen at a residence in Carson City and arrested her on the outstanding warrant. When asked whether she had drugs on her person, Hinsen first denied, but later admitted that she had what she believed to be a quarter ounce of methamphetamine hidden in her bra. Sheriff’s Deputies recovered the methamphetamine, weighing approximately 4.7 grams, at the jail.
On April 30, 2013, Hinsen pleaded guilty to Transporting a Controlled Substance. “Methamphetamine and illicit drugs continue to try and tear at the fabric of our community.
The District Attorney’s Office will pursue prison sentences for those who transport, sell, and or traffic methamphetamine and all illicit drugs in Carson City,” said District Attorney Neil A. Rombardo in a news release statement following Hinsen's Tuesday's sentencing.
In sentencing Hinsen to prison, Judge James Wilson cited the quantity of methamphetamine, Hinsen’s criminal record and multiple prior opportunities for probation and drug treatment, which she did not take seriously, according to the news release.
