Antioch woman identified in fatal Highway 50 motorcycle crash Saturday at Lake Tahoe
A 53-year-old Antioch, Calif., woman was identified as the motorcycle rider killed in a two-vehicle crash that happened Saturday night on Highway 50 in Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe.
Amber R. Hallmark died in the crash that happened at around 8 p.m. in the area of Highway 50 and Martin Drive, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.
The preliminary crash investigation details indicate a 2015 silver Nissan Versa driven by Alma J. Jaramillo-Garcia, 31, of Moxee, Wash., was traveling eastbound on Highway 50 in the left lane. For unknown reasons Jaramillo-Garcia failed to maintain her travel lane and drifted into the westbound lanes.
At the same time a 2015 blue Harley-Davidson motorcycle ridden by Hallmark was traveling westbound on Highway 50 in the left travel lane. Miss Jaramillo-Garcia’s Nissan struck the motorcycle in the westbound left lane with its left front. The collision ejected Miss Hallmark from her motorcycle.
Miss Hallmark and her motorcycle traveled approximately 75 feet before coming to rest on the north paved shoulder. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Miss Hallmark was wearing a safety helmet at the time of the collision.
Miss Jaramillo-Garcia stopped her vehicle after the collision and complied with law enforcement officials on scene. Miss Jaramillo-Garcia was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Inattention and/or Impairment is being investigated as a contributing factor is this fatal crash. The westbound lanes were shut down with traffic control directed by NDOT for several hours while the crash scene was diagramed and investigated. This area of US 50 is two lanes in each direction with a no passing double yellow line separating. The speed limit is 45 mph with no roadway lighting in this area.
Trooper Chris Kelly of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team is investigating this incident.
