Chamber of Commerce unveils local artist, St. Clair's metal sculpture
A local metal artist, Robbie St. Clair unveiled his six-foot metal sculpture of two mustangs rearing. The Carson City Chamber commissioned St. Clair to create the piece of uniquely Nevada art.
Continuing in the vein of placing public art in public places such as that placed along the I-580 corridor as part of the freeway construction, St. Clair’s mustang sculpture was unveiled and dedicated Saturday.
St. Clair began to pursue metal 10 years ago when he found himself wanting to create art that was tangible. He began to construct signs and started taking art classes.
His teachers didn’t know a lot about the art that he was creating, so he had to show them and find his own way, St. Clair said.
“What one man can imagine, another man can create. That is my favorite quote by Jewel, I am a creator,” St. Clair said.
His original art depicts two six-foot Mustangs at play. Mustangs are an integral part of the Northern Nevada landscape and many visitors come to this region to view the Mustangs found in the east end of the city, along Highway 50 and on the way to Virginia City. The art will be of highly polished metal and is sure to be a popular photo site.
St. Clair has many other smaller metal sculptures for sale in the Chamber of Commerce for guests who fall in love with the metal mustangs and want a souvenir to take home.
The dedication of the new art piece was held on Saturday, as part of the Memorial Day celebration of the unveiling of the Glenbrook Steam Engine at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. Artist St. Clair was on hand to meet guests and to showcase his other art works now on display in the Chamber’s Artisan Showcase.
