Child falls off vehicle on Dori Way, flown by Care Flight in very serious condition; driver a family member
UPDATE 1:32PM: From Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong: At 12:09 p.m., the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and Fire/Paramedics responded to the corner of Dori Way and Ester Circle to a reported juvenile pedestrian hit by a vehicle. Once on scene, officers determined that the juvenile was an 11-year-old Hispanic male and the driver of the vehicle, a Chevrolet Tahoe, had left the scene.
The juvenile was treated extensively at the scene by Carson Fire and Care Flight paramedics for gravely life threatening head injuries. He was transported by air to Renown Medical Center. No further updates on his condition were available at this time.
Carson City deputies and detectives were able to determine the driver of the vehicle was a relative of the juvenile. The driver was contacted by telephone and voluntarily returned to the scene. Suspected driver information is being withheld pending completion of the investigation.
While the matter remains under investigation, witnesses have provided information that suggests the juvenile was standing on the running boards of the vehicle and holding on to the side as the driver left a family gathering. Approximately 75 yards from the juvenile’s residence, on a straight residential roadway, the child was thrown from the side of the SUV, forcefully hitting his head on the pavement. The patient remained unconscious throughout treatment at the scene and was determined to have suffered grave life-threatening injuries.
This incident is under investigation. Although no citations or arrests have yet been completed, the Sheriff’s Office will work closely with the District Attorney’s Office as the case develops.
