Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Two jailed after Walmart security officer assaulted

A Dayton man and woman were arrested Friday on multiple charges following a shoplifting incident at Walmart in which a loss prevention officer was physically assaulted, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Desiree Lynn Mynear, 36, was arrested at 3:45 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street on felony suspicion of drug possession, gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription, and misdemeanor charges of battery, petit larceny, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and trespassing.

Also arrested was a 29-year-old Dayton man on suspicion of misdemeanor battery and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle that had matched the description of a vehicle that had left Walmart in which a woman was suspected of shoplifting.

A loss prevention officer stated he witnessed the woman leave Walmart without paying for merchandise. He made contact and attempted to apprehend her. The loss prevention officer stated the woman punched him in the chest and fled to her car where the 29-year-old man was waiting. Security told deputies the woman told the man in the car to go after him. The loss prevention officer stated the 29-year-old suspect “shoulder” checked him in the face, knocking his glasses to the ground, the arrest report states. Both were arrested.

During the vehicle inventory, deputies located a bag of marijuana in the center console and a small bag of methamphetamine in the left front pocket of the dashboard. Bail for Mynear, $7,468. Bail for the 29-year-old man: $1,874.

In other arrests: A 29-year-old Dayton man, Caleb Richey, was booked into jail Friday, 5:10 a.m. after a traffic stop in the area of Highway 50 and Detroit Road. He was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription, gross misdemeanor DUI and misdemeanor possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area after dispatch advised they had received a call reporting that a vehicle was unable to maintain its lane of travel and was going under the posted speed limit.

A deputy observed the vehicle matching the description give by dispatch going east on Highway 50. The deputy paced the vehicle going 70 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop at Highway 50 East and Detroit Road, the arrest report states. The officer could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the man and bloodshot eyes. The man told the deputy he had consumed five alcoholic beverages about four hours prior, the arrest report states.

He performed standardized field sobriety tests unsatisfactorily and was placed into custody. While conducting inventory of the vehicle, officers found two containers of marijuana and a loose pill bottle containing hydrocodone and oxycodone. Carson City dispatch confirmed the man had been convicted of DUI in 2012. Bail: $5,874.

A 54-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 5:50 a.m. in the 900 block of South Carson Street on suspicion of DUI. According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the area of North Edmonds Drive and Reeves Street for an unknown accident.
A deputy arrived on the scene and met with a motorcycle rider who had placed the motorcycle on the ground.

He told the officer he consumed three beers in the evening. He submitted to field sobriety tests and showed impairment on three of four tests. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI. At jail he submitted to an evidentiary blood test. Bail: $1,137.

— A Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 1:33 a.m. in the area of Stewart and Fifth Street on misdemeanor suspicion of DUI. According to the arrest report a deputy observed a vehicle going westbound on Fifth Street at Roop. The vehicle did not have a license plate and no visible temporary moving permit.

The officer stopped the vehicle and met with the driver, who handed the officer an expired temporary moving permit that showed an expiration date of Jan. 29, 2016.

While speaking with the man, the officer could smell an odor of alcohol. He had red, watery eyes and thick slurred speech. He said he had a beer several hours prior and then said he had about two beers within the last hour. He submitted to standardized field sobriety tests and showed impairment and a preliminary breath tests of .90. Bail: $1,137.

— A 32-year-old transient was arrested Saturday, 2:41 a.m. in the 1600 block of Medical Parkway on two misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence warrants. Bail: $6,000.

— A 48-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 7:19 p.m. in the 1900 block of North Carson Street on a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Feb. 21, 2016 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.

— A 23-year-old Burbank, Calif., man was arrested Friday, 2:20 p.m. on a contempt of court warrant issued from Reno Justice Court in August, 2012. Bail: $340.

— A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 3:44 p.m. in the area of South Carson and Fairview on a misdemeanor warrant, violation of a suspended sentence, issued March 23, 2016 out of Carosn City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.

— A 19-year-old Gardnerville woman was booked Friday, 10:30 a.m. into Carson City Jail on a misdemeanor warrant for violation of a suspended sentence. Bail: $3,000.

UPDATE 3:11 PM: The fire in the 1400 block of Monte Rosa Drive was contained to the garage and was knocked down quickly, according to CCFD Battalion Chief Jon Pedrini. The fire did not extend to the main structure. No one was home and there were no injuries. The cause is under investigation.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called late Monday morning to a structure fire in the 1400 block of Monte Rosa Drive.

For years, advocates have called upon presidential administrations to reclassify marijuana or deschedule it entirely from the DEA’s list of controlled substances.
