Carson City man dies in early Monday morning Washoe Valley pedestrian crash
An 18-year-old Carson City man died in a pedestrian crash early Monday morning on I-580 in Washoe Valley after being struck in the northbound lane, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Chile Bartels of Carson City was pronounced dead at the scene, said NHP Trooper Duncan Dauber. The crash was reported at 1:07 a.m., along the interstate north of the Bellevue Road overpass. The driver who hit Bartels, James Dolan, 42, of Sparks, Nev., was arrested on warrants unrelated to the crash, said Dauber.
NHP investigation details indicates Dolan was traveling northbound in the slow lane of Interstate 580 in a red 1998 Honda Civic. Bartels of Carson City was walking northbound in the slow lane in front of the Honda Civic. With its front, the Civic struck Bartels, said Dauber. The red Honda pulled to the left, inside shoulder and parked.
The northbound lanes of Interstate 580 were closed between Bellevue Road and Bowers for several hours during the course of the investigation. This area of interstate is two lanes in each direction and the speed limit is 70 mph.
This report is in its preliminary stages at this time and is still under investigation.
Dolan was the sole occupant inside the vehicle at the time of the crash, and was later arrested on warrants unassociated with this event and taken to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, said Dauber.
