Coalition Meets Wednesday to Look for Ways to Fill Rural Health Care Gaps
Experts from the Veterans Administration and the University of Nevada School of Medicine will join a discussion on tele-health possibilities for rural counties hosted by Healthy Communities Coalition director Christy McGill.
The meeting is on Wed, Feb. 2 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in Dayton at the Community Center at 170 Pike Street. RSVP by email to cmcgill@healthycomm.org or (775) 246-7550. Join the conversation and add possible solutions and creative ideas. Direct service providers are especially encouraged to attend.
The goal of the discussion will be to reach concrete steps for local direct service providers to collaborate with urban or regional providers to quickly make tele-health a reality for rural people who need services.
By request from Healthy Communities Coalition members, Coalition staff are working with other groups to explore how to overcome some of the hurdles to tele-health in our rural areas by bringing local and regional providers together for discussion.
Coalition members have a sense of urgency in case rural services are eliminated in this budget. However, even if they are not, tele-health could help bring more specific services to rural citizens.
At the conference:
— WestCare will be present to discuss how they currently use tele-health for psychiatrists — for both children and adults. They can discuss partnerships with local providers, including details such as billing.
Partners who have good communication systems already in place that could lend use of these systems for these services are being sought —potential partners are county, schools, rural mental health and jails.
