Saturday's moody Sierra on the last day of winter, spring warmup now follows
The last day of winter brought a quick-moving weather system Saturday to the valleys and Sierra as seen in these photos taken by Janis Brandenburg Lee.
With today, Sunday, being the first day of spring, temperatures will be on the cool side before a warmup begins extending through the week, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Temperatures will warm to near 70 degrees on Tuesday across western Nevada while Sierra valleys near the 60 degree mark. The warmest period of this stretch will extend from Wednesday to Saturday with valleys rising into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees, NWS forecasters said.
"Record highs will be on the table through this period across portions of western Nevada. The mountains will likely see a few days of above freezing overnight temperatures with increased runoff. No precipitation is expected during this period with overall light afternoon westerly breezes prevailing," according to the weather service.
