Carson City’s Greenhouse Project will hold a plant and yard sale on Saturday, May 19th from 8am to noon. Several varieties of seedlings and small plants will be available including tomatoes, peppers and petunias. The Greenhouse opened in December 2011, these plants are the first crops grown in the facility. There will also be a yard sale of donated items including restaurant supplies and household items. All money raised will benefit the Greenhouse Project.

The Greenhouse Project is located on the campus of Carson High School, 1111 N. Saliman in Carson City.

Celebrating National Train Day, the Nevada State Railroad Museum’s historic 1910 McKeen motor car will ride the rails from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 12 in Carson City.

Now a stellar attraction for rail enthusiasts and family fun, the McKeen Motor car operated from 1910 to 1945 racking up more than a half-million miles between Reno and Minden. The prestigious car became a diner and an office but was rescued by the museum when it was donated by the Bernhard family of Carson City in 1995.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office will be hosting their ninth annual Sheriff's Open House from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19 at their location at 911 E. Musser St. There will be free food while supplies last, a free child ID kit for every child present, and free activities for children of all ages. On Saturday, May 12, Carson City Symphony's Strings in the Schools will hold a Latin Music Workshop and concert at Empire Elementary School, 1260 Monte Rosa Drive, Carson City. Led by Symphony Education Director Sue Jesch and guest percussionists Liz White, Kevin Conlin, and Gerald Larson from the University of Nevada, Reno, the workshop is open to string players of all ages at no cost. Mile High Jazz Band presents "Jazz in the Merry Month of May," a program of big-band jazz favorites in the Basie-Ellington tradition, featuring vocalist Sheryl Adams and guest vocalist June Joplin, on Tuesday, May 8, 8-10 pm, at Comma Coffee, 312 S. In conjunction with National Police Week, Thursday, May 3, 2012 the 15th Annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ceremony will be held on the Capitol grounds in Carson City. The service will honor the 120 Nevada Peace Officers that have been killed in the line of duty. In 1998, the memorial was dedicated on the Capitol grounds to recognize the ultimate sacrifice these officers made in service of their communities.

On Sunday, June 3rd, 2012 at 8:00 AM, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team will be hosting our first annual fundraiser “Zombie Shoot.” The proceeds of the fundraiser will go to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team to assist in the purchasing of emergency and tactical equipment for the unit.

Saxophonist Paul N. Roth, 2011-12 Nevada Arts Council Performing Arts Artist Fellow, brings his group, SPLIT trio, to Plan: B Microlounge, 318 N. Carson Street, Carson City, on Saturday, April 28, at 8:00 p.m. Joining him are two of Los Angeles' most creative young improvising musicians: bassist Jake Rosenzweig and percussionist Mike Lockwood. The annual Carson Girls Softball fundraiser for the Sharks Tournament Softball teams will be held on May 18th for 6PM to 9PM at the Fuji Park Exhibition hall. Strings in the Schools, Carson City Symphony's after-school program, presents its 2012 Spring Concert, on Tuesday, April 3, 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. About 80 string players, including public-, private-, and home-schooled students from the Carson City area, will perform several pieces, from classics to folk and fiddle tunes. Admission is free.

High Sierra Swing Dance Club invites the public to its fifth-annual Swing Into Spring dinner-dance gala and “Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance” contest on April 28 at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. The next Caron City Chamber of Commerce Soup's On luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, March 27 at 11:30 a.m. at the Gold Dust West.

This month's luncheon features Joel Dunn, operations manager for Carson City Parks & Recreation, who will talk about the economic impact that sporting events have on the city, and how to become involved.

Diamond Peak will continue the tradition of the Dummy Downhill on April 1, 2012. This will be the 12th year for the community’s favorite event of the season.

Participants build a dummy on skis or a snowboard that gets launched off a big jump on Showoff run. Categories include Best Crash, Longest Jump, Most Creative, Shortest Distance and whatever else the judges decide to make up.
