UPDATE: The Nevada Highway Patrol reports no explosives were found inside the DMV in Carson City after a disgruntled man left two packages inside on Tuesday afternoon.

A bomb squad from Douglas County did a sweep of the DMV and the Department of Public Safety building after it was evacuated, the Nevada HIghway Patrol reports. A 65-year-old Silver City man, Charles Leigh Self, was arrested on unrelated charges following the incident. The man was originally reported to be from Silver Springs.

Proscenium Players Presents: "A Christmas Chaos." This is a "Dickens" of a tale of mishaps, mistaken identities, mischief and mayhem meet. The Royal Shakespeare Company is slated to perform Dickens “A Christmas Carol” at the Brewery but get stranded in Carson City, Michigan.

Democratic candidate for US Senate, Congressman Shelley Berkeley will be speaking to the Carson City Democratic Women's Club Biennial Meet the Candidates BBQ on Saturday August 25th. A free public forum on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (AHCA) will be held at the Plaza Conference Center, 211 East 9th Street, Carson City, NV on Tuesday, August 28 at 5:30 P.M.

Hundreds of classic cars will be up for bidding, as well as associated memorabilia. The car auctions will be in the afternoon all three days starting at 1 p.m., with the memorabilia auctions starting each day at 11.

Tonight is National Night Out at Mills Park, an event put on by the Carson City Sheriff's Office. This is the 10th anniversary of the event, and will feature lots of fun activities for children. The event runs from 5-8 p.m.

A Face in the Crowd, a film debuting Andy Griffith in his first major role, will be presented at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 1st, at the Carson City Library.

The film will be hosted by former state archivist Guy Rocha and Reno News and Review editor Dennis Myers. The movie was directed and produced in 1957 by Elia Kazan, and written by Budd Schulberg. This film, which launched Griffith into stardom in the lead role as Larry “Lonesome” Rhodes, also stars actors Patricia Neal, Anthony Franciosa, Walter Matthau, and Lee Remick.

Carson City’s Cycle Pub will take part in Saturday’s I-580 Freeway opening. The vehicle will be sponsored by Carson City Commercial Real Estate Agent Brad Bonkowski.

Bonkowski wants to call attention to the freeway opening, saying it is good news for Carson City. The faster commute time between Carson City and the I-80 manufacturing corridor will help the area attract small manufacturing and industrial businesses.

The public is invited to join the Nevada Department of Transportation in celebrating the soon to open I-580 Freeway, Saturday, July 28, 2012. Activities start at 7 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m. with the opportunity to bike, walk, or run along the freeway, including the Galena Creek Bridge – the longest concrete cathedral arch bridge in the nation.

The Sierra Nevada Health Center in Carson City will hold a grand opening July 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is invited.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will feature a reception, with refreshments, hors d’oeuvres, entertainment, raffle prizes and guided tours. Keynote speakers include: Mayor Bob Crowell, William G. Gordon, Board Chairman of Nevada Health Centers, Inc., and Thomas G. Chase, CEO of Nevada Health Centers, Inc.
