Mt. Rose Upcoming February Events

Mt. Rose has a lot of fun events coming up in February.

Feb. 13-14: Easy Steez Snowboard Jib Camps for Kids

Easy Steez camps are for kids ages 7-12 who like snowboarding and want to improve their park skills. These camps take them to an intermediate and advanced level, working on jibbing and park skills as well as all-mountain riding. Camps are held Feb. 13-14, start at 10 a.m, and cost $39 (season pass required). Spots are limited; call  849-0704 x220 to make reservations.
Feb. 20: 8th Annual Slide Back '80s Retro Ski Party (postponed from Feb. 6)
Mt. Rose invites skiers and boarders to leave the new millennium behind and travel back in time to the decade that gave us everything from Pac Man to Prozac. From once popular feathered hairstyles to stretch pants and skinny skis, visitors are invited to sport their finest '80s fashions. Breaking all of the ski fashion laws may even earn skiers and boarders new gear in the “Most Fashionable” contest at the Winters Creek Lodge, located at the base of the Slide Bowl.
All the action takes place at high noon with the Fashion or Fad contest. Special to this years’ event is the fact that 2010 will mark the first season at the new Winters Creek facility and a celebration of the revitalization of the entire Slide Bowl.
Feb. 26-28: Spirit of the Games
In recognition of the Olympics being back on the West Coast, Mt. Rose is holding slalom races open to the public Feb. 26-28. The races will be held daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and there will be a match and win format. Prizes will include daily medals and results will be posted at Mt. Rose. Open to all ages, skiers and snowboarders welcome. Participants must be able to ski or ride intermediate runs. Entry is free with the purchase of a lift ticket or season pass.
Feb. 27: Chutes Challenge
Test your big mountain riding in the legendary Chutes at Mt. Rose. This ski/snowboard best line contest will take place in the El Cap chute, featuring more than 1,000 vertical feet and pitches ranging from 45-55 degrees. Participants will take two runs and judges will award points based on style, line creativity/difficulty, air and run time. The Chutes Challenge is free with a season pass or lift ticket. Registration will be held in the Main Lodge from 8:30-10 a.m. and the competition will run from 11-1 p.m. All ages welcome; must ski or snowboard at an advanced ability and helmets are required.
