Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe officially cut the ribbon on its new Lakeview Express chairlift on Thursday.

The $7.5M Lakeview zone project was the largest capital improvement project in the resort’s history and changes the way skiers and riders experience the mountain.

The Carson City Elks Lodge no. 2177 is hosting their annual Hoop Shoot fundraiser today for Huntington’s Disease research.

The fundraiser takes place Saturday December 10 beginning at 10 a.m. for children, ages 8 to 13.

As spectators filled the seats last night, Detective Joe Trotter from the Carson City Sheriff's office was getting ready in the pit for his friendly match in the fireman and policeman challenge.

"There are many good firemen out there, and we hope to beat them," Trotter said. "It's good because it's not our profession, it's our hobby. We are here for the love of the sport, and you will see some fighting today for the win."

Carson City BMX had scheduled its annual Race for Life for this Sunday, August 28. The race was to be held last month but was postponed due to air quality concerns. This race raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Sierra Junior Tennis Association is pleased to announce that 32 junior tennis players will compete in the first Sierra Junior Tennis Association (SJTA) tournament hosted at Carson High School today, Saturday, July 30.

The tournament is a fundraiser for Carson High School’s Boys and Girls Tennis Teams whose season starts in August.

Over the weekend of July 16, Carson City hosted the 21st Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs, a premier ultra distance race that encircled the Eastern Sierra west of town. Once a local Sierra endurance race, the TRTER has grown into one of the elite ultra distance races in the country while continuing to be a fully volunteer run operation that makes substantial donations to local organizations.

The annual Genoa Lakes Ladies’ Golf Club President’s Cup tournament took place July 12 and July 14 at the Genoa Lakes Golf Club Lakes Course. Twenty-five members competed in the two-day, net tournament. Amber Graham won the tournament with a net score of 141. Dede Nieto was the runner-up, with a score of 143.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. — The 33rd annual American Century Championship is underway at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. There was a Pro-Am on Wednesday and Thursday features a Celebrity-Am tournament. Also on tap are a short-game skills challenge between Annika Sorenstam, Paige Spiranac, and Kira K. Dixon taking on Hall-of-Famers Marcus Allen and Jerry Rice.

Stephen Curry, fresh off the Golden State Warriors’ fourth NBA championship in the past eight seasons and his unanimous selection as Finals MVP, will bring recognition as one of basketball history’s greatest players along with his golf skills to Edgewood Tahoe for the 33rd annual American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe, July 8-10.
