Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of March 4-10, 2024:

After days of discussion, a much anticipated winter storm barreled down on Carson City and surrounding counties Saturday delivering several inches of snow on the valley floor and multiple feet at Lake Tahoe and across the Sierra.

Due to the Nevada Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety reporting severe weather and potentially dangerous road conditions worsening over the next several hours, Gov. Joe Lombardo has ordered all State executive branch government offices (other than essential public safety and corrections personnel) closed as of 1:30 p.m. Friday in Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County, Storey County and Washoe County.

What do a state lawmaker, federal land use manager, wildlife advocate, biologist, rancher and animal activist have in common?
Not much, it turns out, when it comes to agreeing on how to address Nevada’s swelling wild horse population.

The Carson City School District is asking parents to mark their calendars for Monday, March 4, 2024, when all Pre-K, Kindergarten, new and returning student updates and registrations will begin. This year, in order to be admitted into kindergarten, all students MUST be 5-years-old on or before Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024.

The previously planned Carson City Local Road Funding Workshop scheduled for Saturday, March 2 has been rescheduled to March 23 due to pending inclement weather. We invite you to attend this rescheduled meeting as we continuing to explore financial options to fund local neighborhood road improvements and repairs throughout Carson City. YERINGTON — The Lyon County Clerk, Treasurer’s Office announces services will be limited from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2024 and Tuesday, March 12, 2024 due to staff training.

The winter storm expected to barrel down on northern Nevada and Sierra through Sunday has prompted the Nevada Department of Transportation and Nevada State Police to urge motorists to take winter driving safety precautions, including planning ahead to avoid unnecessary travel.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Wednesday night to a fire in the 1500 block of North Edmonds Drive.
