Carson City FISH donates 1,693 pounds of food to Silver Springs pantry after devastating fire
UPDATE 4:23 p.m.: The Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties issued the following statement:
Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties' Silver Stage Food Pantry in Silver Springs is temporarily closed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Please use HCC's Yerington Food Pantry and Dayton Food Pantry if you are able to travel (details about locations and hours here: https://healthycomm.org/food-hub/food-pantries/ ).
Healthy Communities' Director Wendy Madson explains, "On Tuesday June 22, one of Healthy Communities' Community Health Workers saw that the Quick Space temporarily housing our Silver Stage Food Pantry supplies and equipment was on fire. She quickly called the fire department and grabbed a fire extinguisher to begin dousing the flames. The building and everything inside is a complete loss. Food, both canned and fresh, plus diapers, infant formula and pet food, along with the supplies used to operate the pantry such as carts, racks, crates, and scales to weigh food, were among the items destroyed. We are incredibly grateful to Central Lyon Fire for taking care of us, and to our beautiful volunteers who helped clean up, and are always there, no matter how difficult the task. Once again we say thank you to each and every one of you! We are currently working on solutions to identify temporary space in order to continue distribution to the many families who rely on this food pantry. At this time the Silver Stage Food Pantry is closed while we clean and work through the necessary steps to ensure a safe environment."

On Tuesday night, a fire destroyed all of the inventory at the Silver Stage Food Pantry, leaving those who depend upon the food bank for their nutrition in dire need.
Carson City’s FISH (Friends in Service Helping) stepped up to assist by sending 1,693 pounds of food to the food pantry located in Silver Springs in order to help with Wednesday’s food distribution.
On Thursday, a representative of the food pantry said, "Central Lyon took care of the fire and thankfully there were no injuries. The fire is under investigation, we do not know the cause."
At the time of this publication, the cause of the fire is still unknown, and the full damages to the property are being evaluated. They do not know how long it will take to repair at this time.
The Food Pantry posted early Wednesday morning on their Facebook stating: “We want to thank Central Lyon Fire for their quick response to the fire at our pantry in our time of need. We are (grateful) the fire was put out quickly and no one was injured.”
The public can help the food pantry rebuild and restock by donating. All donations are tax deductible and help our local food pantries provide whole nutrition to the rural counties.
